I Made You A Movie!

It was fun to make, but it took a long time.

Oh, hi!

I’m here with a tiny movie I made for you. I’m guessing you’ll probably watch it on your phone, and in that case I hope I made all the text large enough. I’m not a professional video editor/movie producer, but it WAS pretty fun to make. I guess what I’m saying is, maybe I’ll make more of these, and maybe I’ll get better at it. Thanks for hanging in there with this one!

As I’ve said before, things in the publishing industry move very slowly. I don’t always know how much I can show you because most of the things I’m working on won’t see the light of day for quite a long time.

But, oh well, here we are! I guess I’m trying to show you…without really showing you?

This is a glimpse of my author/illustrator debut. Oh boy. This story has been brewing for quite a while, and I’m calling it Do You Like My Pants? It is still very much in progress, but it is coming along quite nicely. I’ve been working with my editors to shape it and sharpen it into a story that I hope is funny, and clever, and triggers a lot of laughter. I recently got the go ahead to start making all the final full color art. The plan is to get that done by the end of the summer, so it sort of feels like I am in the homestretch with this one. I mean, still a lot to do, but I’ve also done SO MUCH with it already.

It is absolutely a kid’s book, but honestly I wrote it for people of all ages. To me, that’s a marker of a great picture book. If anyone can read it, and enjoy it, and get something out of it, it’s a success. Bonus points if it is funny!

And double bonus points if it is about pants.

The real book will be much bigger when it’s all said and done. Around 9x12 inches.

I’ll have a lot more to say about the process later when I have more freedom to talk about it. Up until now I have only illustrated for other authors. So, being the author and illustrator this time around has been quite a different experience. It’s been SO FUN. It really does feel like a door was unlocked and I’m thinking about my work and what I do - and what I want to do - in a whole new way.

More on that later.

Thanks for reading, I’ll be back soon!
